Hi.

I’ve been a staff writer at Sports Illustrated since 2018. Most of my coverage is split between baseball and women’s basketball. But I’ve been lucky enough to follow my curiosity to a variety of subjects. In the magazine and online, I’ve covered everything from sandlot ball to competitive lifesaving to 1960s chess stars. I also tried out to be a bullpen-cart driver once. (I didn’t get the gig.) My profile subjects have included competitors from Joey Chestnut to Caitlin Clark. I’ve covered four World Series, three women’s Final Fours, and one event where people opened a million baseball cards.

My work has received several awards from the Society of American Baseball Research, and I’ve been invited to discuss my stories on platforms such as BBC News, PBS NewsHour and MLB Network. I enjoy sprawling features as much as deadline game stories and smart news reactions.

Interested in working with me? Send me a note at emma.baccellieri@gmail.com. I’m now based in Washington, D.C., but I grew up in North Carolina and graduated from Duke. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I run a newsletter about soda and soda-drinking experiences called The Soda Fountain.
